Summary
The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the care of injured, convalescent, or disabled persons in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, private homes, group homes, and similar institutions. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.
Functions
Administers prescribed medications or start intravenous fluids, and note times and amounts on patients' charts. Provides basic patient care and treatments, such as taking temperatures or blood pressures, and dressing wounds. Sterilizes equipment and supplies, using germicides, sterilizer, or autoclave. Answers patients' calls and determines how to assist them. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of the information and techniques to diagnose and treat injuries and diseases. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. Knowledge of human behavior and performance; and the assessment of treatment of behavioral and affective disorders. Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis and treatment. Knowledge of business and management principles and practices. Ability to listen and understand information and ideas. Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.
Minimum Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a certificate or academic degree from an accredited school of nursing or nurse practitioner program; plus four years of experience in the nursing field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
Licenses
Must be licensed as a Nurse Practitioner by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing in accordance with ACA 17-87-303.
