What are the responsibilities and job description for the Correctional Counselor I position at State of California?
Under the general supervision of the Correctional Counselor II (Supervisor), the Correctional Counselor I (CCI) interviews inmates to gather information, reads, evaluates, reviews, and summarizes reports from a variety of sources to assist in classification of the inmates. The CCI is responsible for the protection of the community, staff and inmates through the classification process, inmate counseling and through the enforcement of the facility policies, Rules and Regulations of the Director of Corrections, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitations (CDCR) policies and procedures as stipulated in the Department Operations Manual and any other applicable rules, law and regulations.
These positions are currently being filled limited-term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.
Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position.

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and / or appointment. Candidates new to CDCR are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by departmental annual Tuberculosis testing / evaluation thereafter.
