The Associate / Technician collaborates closely with members of the Information Security Office, to uphold a robust security posture for the CalHHS Office of Technology and Solutions Integration (OTSI).

Information Technology Associate

Under the general supervision of the Information Security Officer (ISO), the IT Associate (ITA) supports the department's Information Security Program by assisting with the protection of departmental information assets. The ITA's role includes monitoring, evaluating, and responding to security incidents and vulnerabilities, as well as providing technical and administrative support for cybersecurity operations. Responsibilities include triaging incoming events and incidents, performing tasks related to cybersecurity monitoring and maintenance, and ensuring daily tasks are completed accurately and on time. The ITA also provides backup support to team members during high workloads or absences.

Information Technology Technician

Under initial close supervision of the Information Security Officer (ISO), the IT Technician (ITT) assists with routine tasks supporting the department's Information Security Program. The ITT is responsible for monitoring and documenting security activities, performing basic triage of security events, and providing general administrative support for cybersecurity operations. Additional responsibilities include ensuring daily tasks are completed accurately and supporting team members during high workloads or absences.

    Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate :

  • Experience in monitoring and analyzing security alerts using a various amount of security tools.
  • Proficiency in documenting and escalating security incidents with clear and concise reporting.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, including event triage, compliance with regulations, and incident response processes.
  • Ability to conduct basic research on security policies, standards, and federal / state compliance requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills for maintaining logs, inventories, and other security documentation.
  • Familiarity with routine security operations, such as managing system access requests and supporting scheduled security scans.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with team members during high workloads or absences to ensure operational continuity.
  • Exposure to security engineering practices and a willingness to learn through on-the-job training opportunities.
  • Effective communication skills for preparing newsletters, awareness articles, and other security-related content.
  • Detail-oriented mindset for accurately capturing information and identifying patterns or trends in security data.
