Anticipated Interview Dates : We anticipate holding virtual interviews on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.

Telework Information : This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week. Successful candidate will be required to work five (5) days per week onsite for the first 60 days.

This position will run until filled with the following cutoff date for review : 1 / 4 / 2025, 1 / 18 / 2025, 2 / 2 / 2025, and every two weeks until filled.

The California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS), Network Administration Unit is seeking an Information Technology Supervisor (ITS II Sup) to serve within the Enterprise Network Section.

The ITS II Sup's responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Manages Network Specialists and Network Associates
  • Involved in all decisions / strategy within the Enterprise Network
  • Works in conjunction with Information Technology Specialist II's and Telecommunications Engineers in the Network Engineering Unit

A successful candidate will have a networking background and experience and demonstrate proficiency with managing a network team. The incumbent's unit is responsible for day-to-day maintenance, operational tasks, and assisting with network Architecture, Engineering, Administration, or business partner tasks as needed.

  • Occasional after-hours support, either remotely if applicable or onsite if necessary, for any planned exercises, updates / patching, maintenance activities, or critical incident resolution.

    Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate :

  • Experience working directly with networking components such as : Cisco Firewall Threat Defense (FTD) or other clustered firewall technology, Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) or other port security technology, Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) or other Software Defined Networking, VMWare vSphere Distributed Switch (VDS), and Microsoft Azure cloud environments.
  • General networking experience with routers, switches, firewall, virtual private network (VPN), load balancers, and wireless networking.
  • Works well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience leading a team that produce high quality results within defined service levels.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective leadership and team member development.
