New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.

Description of Job

About the Position

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is looking for a Business Support Technician in our R2 Trinidad location. This position provides support to the maintenance section supervisors by diagnosing and resolving issues related to work orders, timesheets, and budget and maintenance data and records.

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide technical and operational support to the Maintenance Superintendent, Deputy Maintenance Superintendents, Technician V, LTC OPS Is, and Maintenance Employees..
  • Reviews, corrects, and tracks work orders, timesheets, and budget information.
  • Works with CDOT personnel to ensure consistency of maintenance and financial data collection.
  • Creates reports using historical and current data.
  • Provides technical support and training to CDOT personnel on various computer applications and CDOT processes.
  • Tracks expiration dates for DOT medical certifications, creates paperwork for any renewals, and schedules employees for physicals.
  • Utilizes State and CDOT fiscal rules and processes to procure goods and services.
  • Processes accounts payable by coding invoices, collecting supporting documentation, and researching and correcting discrepancies.
  • Represents the department and supervisors by providing customer service by phone, email, and in person to CDOT employees, contractors, vendors, and the traveling public.
  • Assists with managing and maintaining employee, equipment, and financial files.
  • Other job duties as assigned.
Work Environment
  • Your schedule will primarily be 8:00 am – 4:30 pm work hours, Monday-Friday with the opportunity for a flexible schedule.
  • Occasional overnight travel 1-3 times a year throughout Colorado.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications
Experience Only:

  • Three (3) years of full-time work experience where the primary job duties include the following:
    • Working with data in computer systems (e.g. Excel, SAP); Compiling information for tracking and recording various reports as well as provide timekeeping and / or time entry for the department.
    • Applying rules and procedures for the entry, quality assurance, analysis, resolving of issues, reporting and manipulation of data;
    • Providing on-going customer service in person, on the phone, and/or via email to internal and external customers.
OR

Education and Experience:
  • A combination of related education from a college or university from a U.S. accredited institution in Accounting, Auditing, Business Administration, Computer Sciences, Construction Management, Data Management, Finance, Mathematics, or other field of study closely related to the duties and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to three (3) years.

  • A current valid driver license is required for all Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) positions which require operating a state or personal motor vehicle to perform one or more essential functions of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

The exceptional applicant will an experienced Business Support Technician (Tech III) with proven ability or accomplishment in the following:
  • Demonstrated success with the duties listed in the Description of the Job section;
  • Experience in regulatory compliance activities such as inspecting, permitting, or reporting;
  • Ability to work independently and stay on task, being accountable for work time;
  • Years of State service experience related to the duties of this position;
  • Highest work/personal ethics and integrity;
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and be adaptable to changing assignments;
  • Ability to take initiative to solve problems in an innovative manner;
  • Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders with sensitivity to their needs, priorities, promises made and commitments;
  • Effective interpersonal and relationship-building skills;
  • Strong time and project management skills, including prioritization and multi-tasking ability;
  • Excellent reasoning, investigative, analytical, and problem-solving ability;
  • Excellent facilitation, presentation, and communication skills, both written and oral;
  • Strong attention to technical detail and accuracy;
  • Passion for safety;
  • Experience in data entry and administrative tasks.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Gmail, Access, CARS, SAP, and the ability to quickly learn other software systems.
