Anglers, boaters, and naturalists enjoy the variety of water and land-based recreation found here, and it’s a great place to spend your summer! Our rangers receive a wide range of experience in recreation and natural resource management, and we encourage those seeking internships to apply.
Temporary Park Rangers educate the public and patrol our State Parks. They perform a wide variety of jobs, and most of the work is conducted outside in all seasons and weather conditions. Park Rangers work where everyone comes to play! Because of the diversity of the state’s geography, visitors, and recreational opportunities park rangers wear many hats. Theses hats vary from patrolling on boats, ATVs, and vehicles to being hiking guides, doing educational programs and maintenance work.
This is an unarmed law enforcement position (Title 33 Commission) that enforces park laws and regulations; issues warnings and citations for violations; patrols park areas by vehicle, bicycle,
vessel or foot. Responds to emergencies and resolves visitor complaints. Will complete reports and may be required to appear in court. Conducts inspections on boats and other water craft for aquatic nuisance species and will need to take appropriate action upon discovery of such species. This position will assist with all areas of daily park operations, facility maintenance, repair and cleanliness, assist with fee collection, accounting and deposits, visitor services operations, and environmental education programs.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Must be free of felony convictions or pending charges. Consideration will be given to all other
conservation laws
- Must have or be able to attain valid current First Aid and CPR certifications
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly
- Weekend shift work required
- Must be able to work evenings, nights, weekends and holidays
- Applicants must successfully complete a comprehensive background check
- Must attend and successfully complete required Colorado State Park training (may include
- Must be willing and able to work outside which may involve inclement weather.
- Preference may be given to applicants with or working towards a Natural Resources degree
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This position will perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and
handling of materials. Ability to perceive color differences and to hear verbal and radio
communications.
