The Correctional Support Trades Supervisor I (CSTS I) position is a General Maintenance Electrical/Electronics Supervisor for the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC), at a Canon City Correctional Facility. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: ensuring the safety and security of the general public, staff and inmates; training and overseeing inmate workers in general maintenance and electrical skills and procedures and ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant completion of assigned building and grounds maintenance tasks. The General Maintenance Electrical Supervisor promotes the CDOC Mission, Vision and Values with integrity and commitment. Safety and Security - position maintains safety and security of facility and work sites; through clear and accurate communication trains and guides inmates in the proper use of controlled items, tools, equipment and chemicals; enforces security procedures by conducting work site searches and monitoring workplace environment and inmate behavior, paying close attention to changes, inappropriate activity or potential problems; initiates verbal reprimands when warranted and, if necessary, physically controls inmates with the proper application of restraints or "use of force" techniques; monitors, supervises and escorts inmates according to policy and limits inmate access to restricted areas; position performs inmate counts and transportation; responds to emergency situations such as fights, fires and escapes according to policy and writes and submits required reporting. Operations - position ensures the safe, efficient, compliant and cost effective operations of building and grounds construction, janitorial operations, repair or maintenance.Building Maintenance – position is responsible for the maintenance of facility buildings to include electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting, remodeling and repairs; provides instruction and training to inmates in modifying and remodeling of prison buildings that are constructed of various materials (which may include steel, rock, brick, masonry, wood, plaster and pre-stressed concrete); provides training in the design, installation and repair & maintenance of all facility structures; trains inmate workers in the proper use, care and accountability of applicable tools, equipment, chemicals and machinery to ensure safe, compliant and efficient completion of projects. Grounds Maintenance – position is responsible for the maintenance of facility grounds to include design, installation and daily maintenance and repair of irrigation pumps, sprinkler heads and lines, pipelines, valves, supply ditches and gates; provides instruction and training to inmates in all aspects of grounds maintenance and the proper use, care and accountability of applicable tools, equipment, chemicals and machinery to ensure safe, effective and efficient completion of projects. Position is responsible for snow removal throughout complex.The General Maintenance Electrical/Electronics Supervisor coordinates with other projects, supervisors and managers in order to facilitate the most economical use of resources and assists other physical plant staff with duties as assigned. With prior purchase/approval and in accordance with fiscal rules and policies, position maintains adequate inventory of supplies and materials for daily and emergent needs; monitors inventory levels and implements procedures for efficient use and elimination of theft, waste and loss.Supervision - provides supervision of assigned inmate work crew; promotes a high level of performance by setting the work standard according to agency mission and vision.
