This position functions as an independent work leader and production cook in a school / residential setting to perform the full range of related food service duties, to include accountability for the continual work product of other Dining Services employees. This position is accountable for the completion and outcome of three daily nutritional meals, including snacks and special food requests for the students/staff at the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind (CSDB). Follows sanitation practices and nutritional requirements as defined by law. This is a full-time position scheduled to work 40 hours per week on an academic-year schedule (August to June), as per established School Calendar (subject to change).
- Food preparation and production of daily food requirements;
- Ensure proper sanitation practices and food handling techniques as defined by law;
- Functions as a work leader and provides guidance to Dining Services I and Dining Services III staff and student workers concerning the safe and correct operation of cooking equipment, and to ensure completion of daily assignments;
- Appropriate communication, documentation and sharing of information;
- Responsible for appropriate customer service to students, staff and families; and,
- All other related duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager.

Experience Only:
Three (3) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position
PREFERRED: Work leader or supervisory experience in a volume food service operation.
- Must have or be willing and able to obtain an El Paso County SERVSAFE certification within 90 days of beginning employment.
- Persons applying for this position must be willing to work an academic-year schedule (August to June), as per established School Calendar (subject to change), and shift work as required.
- Persons occupying Dining Services positions at CSDB are designated as "essential employees" and are required to be on duty to perform essential and / or emergency services of the State / school without delay and/or interruption to ensure health, safety and welfare, regardless of inclement weather conditions.
- Dining Services positions at CSDB are non-exempt, and employees are eligible to receive overtime pay, with a condition of employment that overtime work must be appropriately authorized in advance and may be paid in compensatory time in lieu of cash payment.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds; must be able to bend, lift, stoop, reach, walk and stand for extended periods of time.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at the SURVIVAL (1 ) skill level, or applicants must be willing and able to attain proficiency at the level required within a specified period of time, as demonstrated by an appropriate assessment tool and according to school policy / procedures.
- Selected applicant(s) will be required to submit to and pass a background check, to include Colorado and Federal criminal history checks, employment verification, and professional/personal reference checks.

- Must utilize appropriate personal protective equipment as required.
- Knowledge of / experience utilizing the Nutri-kids computerized program or similar approved program.
- Knowledge of and ability to read and understand a nutritional guideline for serving menus.
- Knowledge of National School Lunch Program policies and regulations.
- Knowledge of special diets and/or altered textured diets for special needs students.
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions independently.
- Knowledge of and ability to assess and apply technology to perform the requirements of the position; ability to effectively utilize a variety of computer software applications, which may include but is not limited to e-mail, Internet, word processing, electronic calendar, presentation development, spreadsheet, database, etc.; willingness to stay current and develop skills as needed with or without direct support from CSDB.
