Description of Job
Work Unit
The purpose of the Clean Water Compliance Unit is to provide compliance assistance and assurance services for regulated entities so they can comply with various water quality related laws, regulations and permits that protect public health and the environment.
About the position
This position conducts compliance assurance and compliance assistance activities for the construction sector. Compliance assurance activities involve inspecting permittees and assessing their compliance with the associated general permit issued by the division's Permits unit. During the inspection, the position communicates any instance of noncompliance in both verbal and written format. They will work with the regulated entity through the inspection process and assess the adequacy of the site's return to compliance. Each inspection is evaluated against established enforcement criteria to determine if an enforcement referral is appropriate. This position will conduct inspections at construction sites that are permitted under the division's general permit for discharges associated with construction activities. This position will provide compliance assistance and guidance during inspections; respond to inquiries and complaints via phone calls and emails; and collaborate on compliance assistance materials such as guidance documents and fact sheets that are authored by the unit and made available on the division's website.

Minimum Qualifications
Option 1) Five (5) years of water quality or related experience.
Option 2)
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, environmental science, geology, environmental engineering, hydrology, watershed science or closely-related field.
One year of water quality related experience.
Option 3)
A graduate degree in biology, chemistry, environmental science, geology, environmental engineering, hydrology, watershed science or closely-related field will substitute for the bachelor's degree and one year of experience.
