Department Information

The mission of the Division of Student Affairs is to support the University’s goals for student learning by creating opportunities for personal and professional enrichment. The departments within the division do this by providing activities, programs, and services that engage students, fostering an inclusive environment amongst our campus community, and guiding students in the attainment of healthy and successful life choices.

The mission of Student Engagement & Leadership (SEAL) is to cultivate a sense of belonging and connectedness in the university community by empowering and educating students through cocurricular activities, leadership development, and civic outreach. This position supports this mission through the coordination and support of orientation and major events.

Description Of Job

The Events & Orientation Specialist, who reports to the Director of SEAL, is responsible for delivering quality co-curricular programs and services for CSU Pueblo students. The Specialist consistently demonstrates skills, attitudes, character, and values that support the richness of our CSU Pueblo identity while fostering student learning outcomes. This position is responsible for major events such as, Welcome Week, Student Appreciation Week, and Stressbuster Week. In addition, this position oversees the development and coordination of orientation programming including online orientation. Furthermore, this position supervises student staff members aimed at providing support for major events and orientation.

Primary Duties

Orientation

  • Coordinate New Student Orientation programs with oversight from Executive Director of SEAL.
  • Supervise Orientation CORE Members.
  • Oversee Orientation Team Hiring, Training, firing, and timesheets.
  • Coordinate logistics for New Student Orientation Programs including technology needs, room set up, reservations, transition of rooms, etc.
  • Correspond with new students and their families via telephone and email, including troubleshooting the website and registration site, processing payments and refunds, and modifying registrations for Student and Pack Family Orientation Programs.
  • Work with Veteran Support Center to further develop online and in-person military-veteran orientation track.
  • Intentionally create schedule for military-veteran, transfer students, and post-traditional students based on assessment data.

Online Orientation

  • Video production assistance and text content management
  • Manage Online Orientation module through university Learning Management Systems or other online orientation software

Major Events

  • Coordinate and facilitate Welcome Week programs, including but not limited to Pack Kickoff.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Student Appreciation Week Events, including but not limited to Student Involvement & Leadership Awards
  • Coordinate and facilitate Stressbuster Week Events, including but not limited to the Late Night Breakfast

Coordination of Student Staff

  • Assist with hiring of student staff members
  • Oversee training and supervision of student staff members
  • Oversee professional development plans and evaluation process for student employees

Ancillary Duties

Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned

Salary Range

$50,000 to $52,000

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

  • Bachelor’s degree with major or minor in Communications, Sociology, Art/Graphic Design, Business, or related field.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage time, and multitask.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in New Student Orientation, programming, and event planning.
  • Experience organizing and processing multiple contracts simultaneously.
  • Experience in a position that required developing creative and appealing student programs.
  • Experience supervising student employees.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel, Education Higher Education Administration, Communications, or related fields
  • Bilingual – Spanish & English
  • 2 years of experience working in higher education.
  • Experience using Online Orientation Software, Collegiate Link, University Tickets, OnCampus Text, Canva, or other design software.
