The Hands-On History Program Manager reports to the Hands-On History Program Director and is responsible for developing and implementing programs that support youth and their families in Denver and across the state. These programs include school break experiences, summer camps, after-school enrichment, and fifth-day community programming on a four-day school week. This position also provides administrative support for the entire system of Hands-On History sites across the state.Hands-On History is a collection of engaging and exciting education programs. They
provide participatory history and culture-based offerings for students ages 6 to 12 when school is not in session. Offered at multiple locations across Colorado throughout the calendar year, each program’s curriculum focuses on hands-on, experiential-style explorations. It provides interactive classes with themes and topics specifically tailored to each community.
A. Denver-Metro Operations
Manage Hands-On History programs at the History Colorado Center and other Denver-Metro sites, including 10-12 weeks of school break programs (winter/spring/summer).
Develop interactive, hands-on, experimental-style activities and lessons that connect to their lived experiences and cultivate a sense of belonging for school-aged children.Prepare curriculum and supplies for each program. Manage program budget, including tracking expenses and revenue. Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers, interns, and temporary staff for Denver Metro locations.
B. Statewide System Support
Manage the Hands-On History program registration system (Jumbula), including setting up registration pages, training new users, and troubleshooting issues with staff. Invoicing and processing payments. Update and share program planning sheets. Maintaining program statistics (including attendance data) and preparing reports as needed. Create and administer surveys for each site to track youth engagement and program impact. Work with each site to monitor and respond to survey feedback. Work with the Marketing & Communications team and community partners to develop web content, advertising plans, press coverage, and other promotional materials. Manage supply lists and purchasing.
C. Education Department Support
Actively participate in team meetings and strategy sessions. On-call facilitation of Education Department programs, including facilitating school field trips and other youth programs. Represent History Colorado at promotional and community events. Other duties as needed and assigned.
Must be 21 or over and completed one of the following: A four-year college degree with such majors as recreation, outdoor education, education with a specialty in history, elementary or early childhood education, or a comparable field. Two (2) years of college (60-semester credits) training and 6 months (910 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience since attaining the age of 18 of 4 or more unrelated school-age children. At least (3) three years of full-time professional experience managing and developing youth programming, including supervising children ages 6-12 in a school-age childcare setting. Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds with various skill and ability levels. Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet program staffing needs. Proficiency with Google Suite and other web-based programs & applications. Experience managing and updating web pages.

Excellent behavioral management skills focusing on positive reinforcement and trauma-informed strategies. Excellent organizational, conflict management, and communication skills. Ability to adapt strengths and experience to continue, change, or make new procedures.
Occasional evenings and weekends are required. Occasional physical demands include lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds and frequent bending, reaching, and squatting. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be able to travel independently to offsite work locations across Colorado. Successful completion of a criminal background check and fingerprinting.
