Hiring Pay Rate : The salary range listed represents a broad salary range for this position. It is anticipated that this position will begin at $5,179.00 per month, depending upon internal equity, experience, education, and training.

Note : This position is considered essential personnel, requiring being on duty to perform emergency services of the agency without delay and / or interruption and rotates shifts. This position will be required to work at other Arapahoe Community College Campuses. You must be willing to accept working at various locations and working varying hours as needed.

Description of Job

Your application must provide a detailed description of your relevant work experience in relation to the following duties : this full-time position is located in the Campus Police Department within Student Affairs at Arapahoe Community College and reports to a Police Officer II position.

  • Position will patrol campus property in police vehicle, on foot, or bicycle to prevent illegal activities; protect the safety of individuals, buildings and property; enforce statutes, laws, city ordinances, campus regulations, state liquor codes, fire codes and HAZMAT safety rules and regulations.
  • Provide education and assistance to the community via presentations. Offer assistance to students, faculty, staff, visitors, motorists, and others. Provide educational seminars and presentations on relevant crime / safety topics.
  • Traffic safety and special event management are accomplished through vehicle and bicycle patrol; apprehension of offenders; warning or prosecution of offenders; investigation of accidents and complaints; and identification of roadway and vehicle hazards.
  • Identify and reduce crime activity and the opportunity for it. Arrest violators and intervene in physical disturbances. Use physical / deadly force when necessary. Investigate crimes and suspicious circumstances / persons. Identify need for security measures or police presence to prevent crime and danger to our public. Interrogate suspects, interview witnesses and victims, collect evidence, photographs, fingerprints, etc. Intervene in domestic and physical disturbances and mental health crises. Do civil standbys for departments on campus who handle disgruntled students, employees, and customers.
  • Record actions and criminal / improper behavior activity by writing reports, field contact cards, and summons / warrant applications. These permanent records document criminal activity and damage to personal / College facilities and property for use by administrators, prosecutors, judges, and the public. These records are used to identify trends in criminal behaviors.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education and Experience :

    Possession of current, valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification and one year of law enforcement experience which includes patrolling, apprehending, arresting and enforcing criminal and civil laws. You must submit a copy of your POST / PID certificate with your application in order to be considered. Late submissions will not be accepted. You must also attach a cover letter and resume to your online application detailing how your experience and background address the stated minimum and preferred qualifications / competencies of the job in order to be considered. Late cover letter / resume submissions will not be accepted.

    Substitutions : An Associate's degree or higher in Criminal Justice may substitute for the one year of law enforcement experience. However, there is no substitution for the POST certification listed. You must submit a copy of your transcript at the time of applying in order to be considered. Late submissions will not be considered.

    Necessary Special Requirements : Must be at least 21 years of age; possess a valid Driver License and no :

  • Felony convictions
  • Domestic violence convictions
  • Acquiring more than seven points in the last year and / or more than 12 points within the last two years on a driver's license
  • Alcohol / drug related traffic convictions in the last three years and repeat alcohol / drug convictions after the age of 18 within the last ten years
  • Current first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certified or equivalent
  • Positions are subject to a background investigation in accordance with the administrative procedures of the State Personnel Director. Physical and psychological evaluations are required in accordance with section 16-2.5-102, C.R.S.

    Preferred Requirements : Please provide a detailed description on your application of your relevant work experience and document examples of your work in relation to the following : Strong oral and written communication skills. Variety of policing experience. Experience and ability to work with diverse groups of people. Understand and determine appropriate rules and regulations from various sources. Attention to detail. Basic computer knowledge. Prior experience testifying in court. Familiarity with interrogation techniques; HAZMAT safety rules and regulations; CAD computer systems, and EFORCE law enforcement software.

    Conditions of Employment : The Background investigation is part of the exam process. You must pass the initial review to continue in the examination and interviewing process. After a conditional offer of employment is made, prospective employee will be required to submit to and satisfactorily pass a Motor Vehicle Driving Record check, drug screen, CBI / FBI background screening, physical and psychological examinations by a doctor or health care facility which is selected or approved by Arapahoe Community College Campus Police Department in order to determine whether or not a prospective employee can perform the essential functions of the job. Felony convictions or conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges and convictions, it is your responsibility to provide ACC Office of Human Resources with an official disposition of the charges.

    This position requires the individual to exert or lift in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and / or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. It also requires seizing, holding, controlling, and / or otherwise subduing violent, assaultive, or physically threatening persons to defend oneself or prevent injury. Body strength and agility of all four limbs is necessary.

    Appeal Rights :
