At CSU Pueblo we are dedicated to helping students explore financing options to help them achieve their educational goals.  Student Financial Services (SFS) is a comprehensive provider of financial aid and student employment services to prospective and current students, parents of students, and alumni. Student Financial Services assures compliance with federal and state regulations for eligibility of financial aid and administration of financial aid programs.

This position also assists in compiling and analyzing data used for federal and state reporting, compliance, and problem resolution. This position works autonomously managing program and reporting compliance for Enrollment Management and Extended Studies (EMES) and works in collaboration with other departments. This position will provide accounting support for third party billing and deposit reconciliation support for EMES, particularly the Division of Extended Studies and the Military and Veteran Success Center. Additionally, the SFS Staff Accountant will be expected to support the Office of Financial Management when time allows, particularly during the year-end close out of each fiscal year.

Primary Duties:
Funds and Fiscal Management
  • Works with Director of Student Financial Services to set Title IV aid and work-study budgets and packaging over-commits using allocated amounts, federal and state program regulations, and historical data.  
  • Monitors awarding and expenditure levels to make sure regulations are being adhered to and budgets are on target.   Makes necessary funding level adjustments to stay on track with both.  
  • Calculates federal Administrative Cost Allowance and expenses it to Title IV programs using federal guidelines and funding levels.  
  • Monitors and implements necessary changes to procedures in the accounting system (KFS), the Banner financial aid system, the government payment system (G5), and the human resource system (AIS) to comply with Federal and State program requirements and GAAP accounting standards.  
  • Reconciles Title IV expenditures and revenues in KFS, Banner and G5 and makes corrections as needed.   Reconciles AIS work-study earnings reports to Banner and KFS and makes corrections as needed.  
  • Maintains KFS organization, account, object-code and sub-object code maintenance according to GAP.  
  • Manages aid-year based designators with the Federal AR detail codes and account numbers.  
  • Assists BFS in Exhibit K reporting for federal funds – Title IV.  
  • Provides necessary documents for audits.
Federal/State Loan/Grant and Institutional Aid Reporting
Supports Director of Student Financial Services with completion of state and federal reports, including but not limited SURDS and FISAP.
 
Extended Studies and Military Billing Accounting Support
Works with Extended Studies (ES) staff to resolve ES Deposits, correct errors and assist in reconciling third-party and student balances. Provides problem analysis and resolution for military billing related questions and audits.
 
Support Office of Financial Management (OFM)
Provides support for OFM office, particularly during the fiscal year-end process.

Collaboration
Develops and maintains solid working relationships with campus partners involved in working with Student Financial Services, such as campus leadership, Institutional Research, and Business Financial Services.

Salary:
$50,000 - $63,000Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
  • Willing and able to work normal hours of operation and additional hours as business necessitates. Hours may include evening and/or weekends
  • Experience with financial reporting or accounting principles
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office products
  • Previous experience in a position that required exceptional customer service for both internal and external customers
  • Experience with, or commitment to, motivating, educating, and mentoring students and/or staff from a wide range of backgrounds similar to that of Colorado State University Pueblo.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Accounting or related field
  • Knowledge of financial aid
  • Evidence of ability to identify problems including research for solutions and/or answers
  • Experience with higher education
  • Experience with financial aid / government accounting
  • Experience with Banner financial aid and Kuali accounting
  • Significant experience reading, analyzing and preparing documents
