Introduction

The Boating Division is seeking one seasonal Office Assistant position to join a group of passionate full-time and seasonal field-based staff to promote clean and safe boating. Much of the work is office-based but diverse in scope. You will answer questions on the phone and in-person about certification, boating laws, class schedules and data entry. The duty station will be the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection- Marine Headquarters located at 333 Ferry Road, Old Lyme, CT. The start date is April 2025. Length of position: Six months from date of hire, but no greater than 1040 hours total. Typical work days are Monday- Friday. See Examples of Duties section for more information. \t\t\t\t\t\t

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, as a limited duration employee, performs one or more of a variety of tasks and assigned duties of a seasonal nature.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Provides general office and operation support services. Performs a wide variety of basic clerical functions including but not limited to typing, word processing, filing, answering telephones, handling routine requests for information or program materials, assisting with mass mailings, and preparing routine forms. Receives and organizes weekly paperwork and reports from seasonal field staff Assists with Safe Boating class data entry Assists with public outreach events. Assists with other office-related duties, as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Ability to follow instructions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office programs and able to perform a variety of entry-level clerical duties.� May be required to accompany boating staff to various training sessions to provide clerical assistance.� Candidate must have a valid driver's license.� Knowledge of boating is a plus.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class who are assigned as supervisors of small recreational units will perform emergency first aid as needed and will be required to obtain and retain a Basic First Aid Certificate.� Incumbents in this class may be required for certain positions to meet any of the following: Proof of possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator license.� Possession of a valid license to apply pesticides.� College training in a specific field.� Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification may be required by specific State facilities.� Incumbents performing lifeguard services must have and retain an American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguarding Certification (includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Basic First Aid). An EMT or MRT certification may be substituted for the CPR and First Aid requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class. Incumbents performing lifeguard services must be able to demonstrate American Red Cross (ARC) waterfront lifeguarding swimming skills.
