The State of Connecticut, Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is currently recruiting for four (4) Buildings and Grounds Patrol Officer positions at Camp Harkness in Waterford, CT.
- Season ends November 12th, 2025
- Part-time | 2nd Shift
- Schedule: Sunday, Monday | 2:00 pm – 12:30 am
- Regular Days Off: Tuesday - Saturday
- Must be at least 18 years old as of May 16th, 2025.
- There are no benefits with these positions.
- Applicants must be able to work the full season and must complete all required DDS training.
- Must have a valid driver’s
- Will be required to travel.
- Season ends October 2nd, 2025
- Full-time | 2nd Shift
- Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday | 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm
- Regular Days Off: Sunday & Monday
- Must be at least 18 years old as of April 4th, 2025.
- There are no benefits with these positions.
- Applicants must be able to work the full season and must complete all required DDS training.
- Must have a valid driver’s
- Will be required to travel.
- Season ends November 12th, 2025

- Schedule: Friday & Saturday | 9:00 pm – 7:30 am
- Regular Days Off: Sunday - Thursday
- Must be at least 18 years old as of May 16th, 2025.

- Provide basic security services designed to ensure the control and safety of individuals with disabilities, employees and the visiting public;
- Enforce regulations relating to parking and traffic control as established by the assigned agency;
- Direct traffic on state property;
- Issue tickets for violations;
- Provide information and assistance to visitors;
- Guard entrance and exits to prevent trespass, vandalism, theft and other violations;
- Perform routine vehicle and foot patrol duty and monitor security alarm systems to detect theft and other criminal acts;
- Provide security escorts;
- Provide first aid when necessary;
- Perform dispatching and record keeping functions at a desk post;

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
At a state institution, university or school, or facility this class is accountable for providing basic security services designed to ensure the control and safety of clients, students, employees and the visiting public.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Enforces regulations relating to parking and traffic control as established by assigned agency;
- Directs traffic on state property;
- Issues tickets for violations;
- Gives information and assistance to visitors;
- Guards entrances and exits to prevent trespass, vandalism, theft and other violations;
- Performs routine vehicle and foot patrol duty and monitors security and alarm systems to detect theft and other criminal acts;
- Provides security escorts;
- Provides first aid when necessary;
- Performs dispatching and record keeping functions at a desk post;
- At a state hospital, assists in maintaining order among patients;
- Assists in searching for missing patients;
- At an agency or institution, may oversee the activities of fellow officers as designated;
- May assist in fire prevention and fire fighting activities;
- Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Possession of a Security Officer Identification Card
- Experience working in the security field.
- Experience working or volunteering with people with disabilities.
- Experience working in a camp, park, or other recreational setting
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to obtain and maintain a Standard First Aid Certificate and/or CPR certification.
CHARACTER REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the checking of references and of facts stated in the application, a thorough background investigation of each candidate may be made before persons are certified for appointment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Incumbents in this class must have general good health, be free from any disease or injury which would impair health or usefulness and possess and retain sufficient physical strength, stamina, agility, endurance and visual and auditory acuity required to perform all the duties of the class.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbents in this class may be exposed to the attendant discomforts of working outdoors, to the effort of prolonged periods of walking and standing while on foot patrol and/or guard duty, and to some danger of injury in performing the duties of the class.
