Water Planning
Gain real work experience and work with some amazing people in the Water Quality, Water Quantity, Water Monitoring and Watershed Groups within the Water Planning and Management Division! Work on water planning projects, analyzing data and information and evaluating environmental conditions.

This posting supports the Water Quality, Water Quantity and Watersheds Units.

Up to 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Position is durational, lasting no longer than 1 year or a total of 1,040 hours, whichever comes first. Opportunity to telework a portion of the work week based on position details

  • If selected for interview, applicants will be contacted by the divisions hiring supervisor anticipated for March/April of 2025.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, as a limited duration employee, performs one or more of a variety of tasks and assigned duties of a seasonal nature.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Entering and organizing data in computer files;
  • Analyzing data;
  • Developing Story Maps and Interactive online maps;
  • Writing memos and reports;
  • Conducting literature searches;
  • Conducting public outreach;
  • Organizing project files, reports and other documents;
  • Attending meetings that may be virtual, in-person, or offsite location;
  • Assisting with the development of reports, environmental reviews, plans or documents; and
  • Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Ability to follow instructions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with and/or course work in water quality, biology, limnology, ecology, toxicology, hydrogeology, data science, geology, geographic information systems, environmental planning and/or environmental science;
  • Experience working from a personal computer;
  • Experience utilizing MS Office (e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc);
  • Experience utilizing GIS Experience operating R or Python programming language; and
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class who are assigned as supervisors of small recreational units will perform emergency first aid as needed and will be required to obtain and retain a Basic First Aid Certificate.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required for certain positions to meet any of the following:
    • Proof of possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator license.
    • Possession of a valid license to apply pesticides.
    • College training in a specific field.
    • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification may be required by specific State facilities.
  • Incumbents performing lifeguard services must have and retain an American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguarding Certification (includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Basic First Aid). An EMT or MRT certification may be substituted for the CPR and First Aid requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class.
  • Incumbents performing lifeguard services must be able to demonstrate American Red Cross (ARC) waterfront lifeguarding swimming skills.
