- Full Time, 40 hours per week
- Monday through Friday
- Location: Department of Transportation Headquarters in Newington, CT.
- Reports to a Transportation Supervising Planner or employee of a higher level.
- P-4 (Engineering and Scientific) bargaining unit
- This position is eligible to apply for telework after successful completion of the working test period, and thereafter, in accordance with the Telework Policy which can be found here. Employees in their initial working test period must work on site in the office.
- Reading and interpreting engineering plans, diagrams, and schematics
- Performing daily quality control checks, populating databases, and working with spreadsheets Performing statistical analysis
- Reviewing and preparing statistical and written and technical reports
- Working with Geographic Information Systems and CADD software and utilizing maps in ArcGIS and other Linear Reference System (LRS) platforms as well as analyzing data for impacts to transportation facilities, projects, and programs
- Eligibility for promotion to the target classification of Transportation Planner 1 is earned upon successful completion of the training program.
- Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree will serve a two (2) year training program.
- Candidates with a Master’s degree in a closely related field may be eligible for a shorter training period.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state agency this class is accountable for mastering the skills necessary to satisfactorily complete the training program for a professional position.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- In a department or institution receives training in introductory governmental work for development of skills and knowledge in field of public administration in order to qualify for advancement into agency professional positions;
- Performs a variety of increasingly difficult duties as skills are acquired during course of training period;
- Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Possession of a bachelor's or master's degree, preferred disciplines include: Geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Economics, Mathematics, Management Information Systems, Environmental Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science or similar
- Experience or training in GIS and/or Linear Referencing System (LRS) development or Field data collection through course work, work experience, or internships
- Experience with Microsoft Office and other programs such as, but not limited to: Exor, FME, ESRI’s product suite, PowerBi, and Google Earth through course work, work experience, or internships
- Experience in performing measurements, recording data outdoors, performing quality checks and reporting information through course work, work experience, or internships
- Experience with troubleshooting and repairing electronics or hardware
- Experience with statistics and performing statistical and mathematical analysis and calculations through course work, work experience, or internships
- Experience working with large data sets, field data recordings, or asset data attribution through course work, work experience, or internships
- Experience independently reading and interpreting maps, site plans, designs, diagrams, schematics or other technical drawings through course work, work experience, or internships
