The incumbent will supervise a multidisciplinary team serving 180 clients with severe and persistent mental illness and/or substance use disorders in an urban outpatient setting. The Supervising Clinician leads the outpatient behavioral health team, providing services to clients in the greater Waterbury catchment area, including those in various residential settings. Many clients also have significant medical conditions requiring oversight and follow-up care.�The team includes psychiatrists, nurses, mental health workers, mental health associates, and clinical social workers. The Supervising Clinician manages acute client risks, develops risk mitigation plans with staff, and oversees timely documentation, billable services, assessments, quality treatment plans, scheduling, clinical groups, and compliance with Joint Commission standards. Responsibilities also include staff performance management, including annual and quarterly evaluations, family involvement, staff education, and coordination of unit activities.�This role requires developing professional relationships with community representatives and integrating supports such as employment, education, and housing. The incumbent will provide client care and professionalism, with a solution-focused approach to serving clients, their families, and the community. The Supervising Clinician may also carry a limited caseload. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state agency this class is accountable for providing supervision and direction of a clinical unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Seven (7) years of professional health care experience in a psychiatric setting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been at a lead level responsible for coordinating the work of a unit or team of professionals in a psychiatric setting. NOTE: For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of an Advanced Clinical Social Worker for social work discipline, Head Nurse for the nursing discipline, an Advanced Professional Counselor and an Advanced Marital and Family Therapist.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree. A Master's Degree in a health care field related to one of the disciplines in the Special Experience may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience providing clinical outpatient treatment in the community for adults with severe and prolonged mental illness, addiction, and co-morbid medical conditions.� Experience with written documentation and managing large volumes of paperwork.� Experience providing supervision to a multidisciplinary team.� Experience documenting in an Electronic Health Record.� Experience locating housing and working with homeless individuals.� Experience providing culturally sensitive and evidence-based treatments such as DBT, EMDR, IDDT and Trauma informed care.� Licensure as a LCSW, LPC or LMFT preferred. Experience overseeing risk management in a fast paced, high energy work environment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a current license as a Clinical Social Worker, a licensed Marital and Family Therapist, a licensed Professional Counselor, or as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Connecticut. The license required for direct supervision of clinical oversight will be dictated by the functions of the assigned unit or program. Incumbents in this class may be required to possess certification as a clinical supervisor by the Connecticut Certification Board. Incumbents in this class may be required to be bilingual or fluent in American Sign Language. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
