The State of Connecticut, Department of Developmental Services (DDS) - North Region - is recruiting a Developmental Services Worker 2, full-time position, located at Great Pond Road, Simsbury, CT. Position will be interviewed for appreciable differences.

Position Highlights :

  • Location : Great Pond Road, Simsbury
  • Full-time, 70 Hours / Bi-weekly
  • Third (3rd) Shift
  • Sunday-Thursday : 11 : 00pm-6 : 00am
  • Regular days off : Friday, Saturday

    This position will be filled in accordance with contractual language, reemployment, SEBAC, transfer, promotion and merit employment rules.

    PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

    In the Department of Developmental Services this class is accountable for acting as part of a team in an intensive programming effort designed for the care, guidance, supervision and training of individuals.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Implements programs and procedures designed to achieve objectives of department in care of individuals with developmental disabilities;
  • Provides guidance and instructions to individuals in development of desirable personal habits, hygiene and social relationships;
  • Responsible for individuals health and safety;
  • Implements individual program plans;
  • Reinforces appropriate individual behavior through modification techniques;
  • Participates in preparation, serving and feeding of meals to individuals;
  • Performs housekeeping duties necessary to maintain a clean and healthy environment for individuals;
  • May lead and participate in social and recreational activities designed to develop individual potential;
  • May act as shift charge;
  • May attend interdisciplinary team meetings;
  • May evaluate performance of subordinate staff;
  • May provide orientation and basic inservice training to subordinate staff;
  • May participate in special programs designed to fully develop potential of individuals;
  • May administer first aid in emergency situations;
  • May administer selected oral medications;
  • Performs related duties as required.

  • Knowledge of

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

    One (1) year of experience in the care and supervision of individuals with developmental disabilities at the level of a Developmental Services Worker 1 or equivalent experience in a human service field.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hold a Medication Administration Certification
  • Experience supporting individuals that may exhibit severe challenging behaviors.
  • Experience working with non-verbal individuals with intellectual disabilities.
  • Experience working with Adults with Autism.
  • Experience supervising staff in supportive roles.
  • Experience communicating internally and externally with team members and community providers both over the telephone and in written inquiries.
  • Experience using Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Excel, Teams, and Word.
  • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to obtain and maintain Medication Administration Certification from the Department of Developmental Services.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to be bilingual or fluent in American Sign Language.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's license, Public Passenger Endorsement or Commercial Driver's license for designated positions.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Incumbents in this class must possess physical and emotional health for efficient performance of duties; a physical examination may be required.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to lift and restrain individuals.
  • Incumbents in this class may have significant exposure to communicable / infectious diseases and to risk of injury from assaultive / abusive individuals.
  • Incumbents in this class may be exposed to strongly disagreeable conditions.
