The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is currently looking for an Environmental Trainee to work within the Materials Management and Compliance Assurance Bureau’s Waste Enforcement and Engineering Division (WEED) located in Hartford, Connecticut.
WEED is responsible for the oversight of regulation of solid waste and hazardous waste facilities, pesticides and supports the goals of the state-wide solid waste management plan ensuring sustainable materials management in accordance with applicable statutes and regulations. WEED administers these responsibilities are accomplished through, permitting, inspection, enforcement, public education and outreach.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state agency receives training in introductory professional environmental work for the development of technical and professional skills and knowledge in order to qualify for advancement to the professional environmental work of the agency; performs a wide variety of increasing difficult duties as technical skills are acquired during the course of the training period.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Candidates must be able to meet the experience and training requirements of the designated job class at the completion of the development program.
Preferred Qualifications
Incumbents in this class may be exposed to some danger of injury or physical harm from on site environments and moderate degree of discomfort from exposure to year round weather conditions.

- Experience or training communicating technical, regulatory, policy, operational information verbally and in writing.
