This position will support our facilities and grounds operations for our 92-acre campus in Rocky Hill. Find out more information on this great opportunity below!

  • Work Schedule: Full-Time (40 Hour), Monday - Friday, First Shift (6:30 A.M. - 3:00 P.M.), Rotating weekends

For over 140 years, the Department of Veterans Affairs has been caring for its Veterans and their dependents. As a Department, we believe in "serving those who have served." This is accomplished through our: Office of Advocacy and Assistance, Residential Facility, Healthcare Center, and Cemetery and Burial Services.

The DVA Has Supported Connecticut Veterans And Continues This Tradition With Residential And Healthcare Programming On Our Campus In Rocky Hill. There Are Two Paths For Residency At The DVA

  • Residential Facility: offers temporary, supportive living with programming designed to return Connecticut Veterans to independent living in the community;
  • Sgt. John L. Levitow Healthcare Center : a state-of-the-art medical facility that offers long-term care for Veterans with chronic, disabling conditions who require 24-hour assistance.

  • Review the eligibility and documentation requirements for CT license by endorsement of an out-of-state license;
  • Complete a CT DPH online application online (expand the ‘Public Health Practitioners’ grouping, select ‘Registered Nurse’ and then ‘Start’;
  • Request verification of your out-of-state license(s) electronically through the National Council of State Boards of Nursing’s : Nursys® System. To send verification of your license(s) to CT, read and agree to the terms, enter your biographic information, select your license type and select ‘SEARCH’. Review the results and select the ‘Next’ button. Check the box next to ‘Connecticut’ and complete the transaction. Once the transaction is completed, you will receive a confirmation email from Nursys and the verification will be available to the DPH. Note that PA and MI verifications are not provided through Nursys. Please contact those state boards for information on obtaining verification.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In a state agency this class is accountable for supervising nursing staff engaged in professional nursing activities.


EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
  • Plans, organizes and directs health services for an assigned program, unit(s), facility or geographical area;
  • Ensures that goals, objectives and work performed are consistent with standards and that quality care is provided to individuals;
  • Provides clinical guidance to nursing staff;
  • Selects, develops, motivates and evaluates staff;
  • Conducts performance evaluations;
  • Monitors the quality of documentation, records and other information concerning services and care;
  • Ensures that resources are available to provide quality services;
  • Participates in the development of policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of services;
  • Participates in the development of long-range plans for health care programs;
  • Acts as a liaison with other units, agencies and outside organizations;
  • Prepares, analyzes and evaluates reports and other information concerning the delivery of services;
  • Responds to psychiatric or medical emergencies;
  • May physically restrain individuals;
  • May oversee all nursing operations in the absence of the Director of Nursing;
  • Performs related duties as required.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Considerable knowledge of
    • and ability to apply nursing principles, clinical therapeutic models, and standards of nursing;
    • specialized individual care in the assigned nursing areas;
    • current medications, their actions, interactions, uses and side effects;

    • procedures and protocols of applicable accrediting institutions;
  • Knowledge of management and administrative principles and human resource development strategies;

Minimum Qualifications - General Experience
Four (4) years of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse in a hospital, regional, institutional or psychiatric setting.


Minimum Qualifications - Substitutions Allowed
  • A Bachelor’s degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience.
  • A Master's degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a Skilled Nursing Facility in a Long-Term Care setting.
  • Experience utilizing Department of Public Health and Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services regulations in a Long-Term Care facility.
  • Experience working with the Veteran population.


Special Requirements
  • Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a current license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing in Connecticut.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to be fluent in a foreign language or proficient in the use of the American Sign Language in certain designated positions.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
