The Connecticut Department of Correction is seeking highly motivated, experienced and licensed Supervising Nurse (Correctional Facility) to join our Health Services Unit at the Cheshire Correctional Institution located in Cheshire, CT.

POSITION DETAILS
This is a full-time, 35 hours per week position on 2nd shift. Schedule is Monday-Friday between 2 : 00pm and 9 : 00pm.
Correctional nursing is the delivery of evidence-based nursing to protect, promote, and optimize health and abilities; prevent illness and injury; facilitate healing; alleviate suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response with care and respect; and advocate for individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations under the jurisdiction of the justice system.
The Cheshire Correctional Institution confines adult sentenced and unsentenced offenders. It also operates several specialized housing units, including protective custody, restrictive housing and the True Program.
The facility supports the DOC initiative by providing various opportunities that address risks / needs such as; offender programming, learning a trade through prison industries, educational and vocational programming to include special education services provided to qualified students under age 22, addiction treatment programming and religious services. The vocational education programs conducts dozens of projects assisting non-profit and community organizations.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Correction this class is accountable for supervising nursing staff engaged in professional nursing activities.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
and ability to apply nursing principles, clinical therapeutic models, and standards of nursing;
interpersonal skills;
establish and maintain collaborative relationships with other professionals;
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Four (4) years of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of General Experience must have been at the level of a Head Nurse, Head Nurse (Correctional Facility), Forensic Head Nurse or Clinical Nurse Coordinator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must be in good general health; candidates must have and retain sufficient stamina, agility, and visual and auditory acuity necessary to perform all duties of the class. Applicants are required to pass a physical examination.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbents in this class may be required to lift and restrain inmates; may have some exposure to communicable / infectious diseases and to risk of injury from assaultive / abusive inmates; may be exposed to disagreeable conditions.
