Summary Statement

Join the William State Service Center as a part-time Social Service Specialist I! Be that first point of contact for all those who come to the center! You’ll assist those in need by conducting interviews to determine the client’s needs. Then, through documentation and utilizing the resources of the communities and Division of Social Services, you’ll assess eligibility for emergency assistance programs. Those who are ineligible, you’ll provide referrals to the appropriate agencies and resources. Your other duties include providing on-site coverage at the center, interacting with the public, and promoting effective public relations for this division.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Provides information and referral services to enable clients to meet individual needs. Informs individuals of Federal, State and local programs/services available. Acts on behalf of individual or group to obtain services if necessary. Maintains record of all requests for services and classifies them. Acts as substitute for other workers when needed and provides coverage for other DSSC programs as assigned. Performs follow up activities with clients to assure client is receiving needed services as well as meeting their responsibilities. Provides transportation and schedules clients eligible for assistance.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Social Service Specialist I Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas: Six months experience in record keeping. Six months experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures. Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data. Knowledge of health or human services support such as interviewing clients and assessing personal, health, social or financial needs in accordance with program requirements or coordinating with community resources to obtain client services.

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.
