The Division of Air Quality oversees regulations and permits governing the control of air pollution, from all sources in the state, to ensure that Delaware’s air meets State and Federal Air Quality Standards created to protect public health and the environment. Summary Statement

This position is located within the Division of Air Quality Planning Section at either the Dover, DE State Street Commons or New Castle, DE Grantham Lane office. Duties are related to Airshed Planning and Emission Inventory and include: State Implementation Plan revisions; emissions inventory assistance; technical research and data analysis in support of air quality related programs, primarily related to National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS); and the development of regulations and other voluntary measures to reduce air quality emissions within the state of Delaware.

Essential Functions

Conducts field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, various regulatory submissions or literature and makes recommendations. Performs statistical analysis of data. Conducts technical reviews and makes recommendations on permit applications or other various regulatory submissions to ensure compliance with regulations. Prepares permits, technical reports and/or enforcement case documents. Responds to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Scientist II Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas: Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher�in Life, Physical, or Applied Science or related field. Six months experience in�analyzing and evaluating scientific data. Six months experience in interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures. Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data. Six months experience in technical report writing.�
