Summary Statement

An incumbent in this class is responsible for supervising the operation of a major District Shop or the Statewide Rebuild Shop.� Supervises subordinate technical and support personnel. This position must be available to work overtime as needed, and during storm events and other emergency events on short notice, and in some cases, no advance notice.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here. Supervises, instructs and provides guidance to personnel engaged in the maintenance, repair and/or rebuild of a wide variety of vehicles, including automobiles, trucks, construction equipment and their related mechanical and hydraulic components. Prepares schedules of repair operations and assigns priorities. Implements and monitors preventive maintenance programs for all assigned vehicles and equipment. Coordinates the repair and maintenance work scheduled with the operational requirements of the Department. Inspects automotive equipment to determine the extent and type of repair work necessary. Makes recommendations as to the feasibility of repairing equipment at the facility or the central component shop. Reviews completed jobs for adherence to acceptable standards and practices of quality and timeliness. Maintains and reviews history record cards for all vehicles and equipment and makes recommendations as to whether the same should be repaired or replaced. Makes decisions on cost effectiveness of in-house repair/rebuild or other source replacement of equipment. Maintains written records and files concerning personnel and materials.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Automotive Supervisor II Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas: Three years experience in diagnosing, repairing, rebuilding and calibrating light and heavy-duty engines, power trains, stabilizing mechanisms and related equipment requiring multiple integrated calibrations. Three years experience in troubleshooting and repairing integrated mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and related systems on vehicles and equipment. Six months experience in staff supervision which includes planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others. Possession of a valid Driver’s License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
