What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Staff Attorney position at State of Delaware?
Summary Statement
This position will provide legal advice and counsel to support the managerial functions of the Court Administrator and the operational functions of the Register in Chancery. This position will also work with the Chancellor, Vice Chancellors, and Magistrates in Chancery in an advisory and administrative function concerning court-wide initiatives aimed to reduce workload. These initiatives may include preparing standard operating procedures, aiding with annual budgeting initiatives, research on subject matter jurisdiction and statutory reform, proactive mediation efforts, assistance with discovery disputes, reviewing motions to expedite, and other responsibilities assigned by the Chancellor.
Preferred Qualification
Preference will be given to applicants who have experience serving as legal counsel to government entities, assisting with budget preparation, advising on procurement activities and negotiating contracts, litigating in the Court of Chancery, working in public policy or on legislation, and advising on court rules or procedures.
Essential Functions
Handle duties as assigned by the Chancellor to better establish a work life balance in the Court of Chancery and provide legal counsel to the Court of Chancery, its officers, and employees.
Job Requirements
Applicants must have education, training and / or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas :
- Graduation from an accredited law school and minimum of five years’ work experience as an attorney.
- Admission to the Delaware Bar, with certification of good standing status.
- Excellent research and writing skills.
- Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- At least one legal writing sample of at least five pages submitted as an attachment to the application.
- At least two letters of reference.
