The Division of Fish & Wildlife conserves and manages Delaware’s fish and wildlife and their habitats, and provides fishing, hunting, wildlife viewing and boating access on nearly 65,000 acres of public land.

Summary Statement

This seasonal research assistant position with Delaware's Species Conservation and Research Program will assist the State Marsh Bird biologist with marsh bird monitoring statewide. Job responsibilities include marsh bird point count surveys from April-August following standardized protocols (SHARP); nest searching and nest monitoring of marsh birds in specific study areas following standardized protocols; assisting with mist-netting and banding of marsh birds within specific study areas; data entry; and assisting with other field activities as needed, including marsh vegetation surveys, communicating with land managers, maintenance of field equipment and assisting with other wildlife research.

  • Provides technical support in studies, surveys, inspections and research projects.
  • Collects field samples and data.
  • Provides technical information and assistance to the public and the regulated community.
  • Interprets rules and regulations for assigned area.
  • Reviews permit applications and supplemental paperwork for approval or recommendation for disapproval.
  • Operates and maintains vehicles, boats and sampling equipment.
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
  • May assist in processing biological samples.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Control Technician II Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

1. Six months experience in conducting field work to collect samples and survey data.
2. Six months experience in math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, or decimals.
3. Six months experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
4. Six months experience in narrative report writing.
5. Knowledge of using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
6. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.
