What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Scientist III - Gamefish Research position at State of Delaware?
Introduction
The DNREC Fisheries Section works to enhance and protect Delaware’s fish and aquatic resources in support of recreational and commercial fishing and aquaculture. It provides first-class fishing and boating access to Delaware’s many waterways. This Section conducts fisheries research, resource monitoring, and collection of biological information on marine and freshwater fisheries.
Summary Statement
This position is responsible for : conducting research relevant to the management of freshwater fish, and Largemouth Bass in particular, in non-tidal and tidal streams throughout Delaware; collecting and analyzing biological data (including age structures) for use in determining management actions needed to maintain viable gamefish populations; preparing grant packages and writing scientific reports, reviewing permit requests, consulting with pond owners, leading non-tidal fish kill investigations, communicating with Largemouth Bass anglers, and representing the state on various technical committees and working groups.

Selective Requirement
Selective Requirements must be met in addition to the job requirements. Applicants who do not possess the selective requirement will not be qualified.
- Six months experience in fish identification and fish sampling methods.
- Six months experience in the safe use of electrofishing gear.
- Knowledge of preparing and aging fish bony parts.

As a condition of hire you must possess a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
As a condition of hire the applicant must agree as a requirement of employment to possess a Delaware Private Applicators Certification within 180 days of employment.
As a condition of hire, the applicant must show proof of boater education (a state-issued card or NASBLA-approved certificate) or successfully complete a NASBLA approved boating safety course within 90 days of employment.
