Essential Functions

- Examines claims which includes collecting, analyzing and evaluating financial records and legal documentation (foreign and domestic), from a variety of sources such as claims from individuals, estates, corporations, government agencies, law firms, etc.
- Determines the type of claim documentation required for the return of property, as well as authenticity of documents and ownership of property through an evidentiary process.
- Approves or denies claims by applying relevant state and federal laws, regulations, rules, and internal policies, procedures, and controls related to any of the following or any other relevant area : unclaimed property and escheat; tax; accounting; insurance; workers’ compensation; labor; or claims.
- Conducts compliance review of the receipt, inventory, safeguarding, and reconcilement of securities and related property to ensure all claims transactions comply with relevant state and federal laws, regulations, rules, and internal policies, procedures, and controls related to any of the following or any other relevant area : unclaimed property and escheat; tax; accounting; insurance; workers’ compensation; labor; or claims.
- Performs complex calculations to determine the return of securities to ensure adherence with relevant state and federal laws, regulations, rules, and internal policies, procedures, and controls related to any of the following or any other relevant area : unclaimed property and escheat; tax; accounting; insurance; workers’ compensation; labor; or claims.
- Communicates verbally and in writing with multiple units within the Department such as the Enforcement, Fraud Prevention and Holder Reporting units, as well as internal and external customers, to explain legal requirements, authenticate ownership, ensure properties claimed are eligible for refund, and to provide information regarding the progress of a claim.
- Ensures potentially fraudulent activity is escalated and investigated.
- Follows, develops, and recommends policies and procedures consistent with relevant state and federal laws, regulations, rules, and internal policies, procedures, and controls related to any of the following or any other relevant area : unclaimed property and escheat; tax; accounting; insurance; workers’ compensation; labor; or claims.
- Prepares written reports including claims examination findings and recommendations.
- Utilizes computer software to perform audit and analysis.
