Position Overview:

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the quality of health care in Florida.

We are seeking to hire a Senior Data Base Analyst who desires to work to enhance the delivery of health care services through the Florida Medicaid Program. 

This position requires a candidate who is creative, flexible, innovative, and who will thrive in a fast-paced, team-based work environment.

 

This position is located in the Bureau of Medicaid Data Analytics. 

Join Data Analytics as we gather, explore, and examine data to provide meaningful and impactful analysis that shapes the future of Florida Medicaid. 

As the Agency hub for analytics, reporting, and visualization, the Bureau of Medicaid Data Analytics examines critical aspects of Floridians’ health, health care services and costs, and is vital to managed care rate setting, health care economics, and health plan evaluation.

 

This position is responsible for preparing all types of data reporting and analysis for the Medicaid program. 

This employee will:

    

Develop and maintain queries and processes for analyzing large Medicaid data sets to support reporting and analysis throughout the Division. This includes tasks related to program operations, legislative requests, media inquiries, public records requests, etc.

    

Operationalize Medicaid policy and program concepts to generate quantitative measures of Florida Medicaid recipients, services, costs, and providers. Develop, test, and execute computer programs using SQL, Florida Health Care Connections (FX) Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) to obtain data and prepare statistical analyses for responding to requests from Federal CMS, agency management, and other bureaus.

 

Interpret statistical results using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation to independent complex data mining, and report data in formats suited to different audiences.

    

Contribute to peer review and cross training as directed.

    

Work with other bureaus and sections to ensure the availability of data elements to support the Division’s data analytic needs.

    

Perform other work related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Strong knowledge of SQL, SAS, VBA or other programming skills related to data extraction, transformation and loading

• Knowledge of Microsoft (MS) Access and Excel

•Possess strong quantitative research and analytical skills

•Possess strong communication (written and verbal) skills

•Possess strong interpersonal skills

•Ability to utilize information technology to solve complex problems

•Ability to handle detail with a high degree of accuracy

•Ability to develop data reports that communicate effectively to internal and external clients

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

• 3 years of programming experience in SQL, SAS, or other statistical analysis software to manipulate and analyze multi-million record administrative databases.

• 2 years of experience preparing data reports or presentations.

• A bachelor’s degree or higher in a computer or social science is preferred, but not required and can substitute for one year of the required work experience.

• One year of experience in health care analysis may substitute for one year of programming.

BACKGROUND SCREENING
