ANTICIPATED VACANCY

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for operating the Capitol Police’s electronic security system and communications network located in the Capitol Building and serving the Capitol Complex and Capital Circle Office Complex security operations for the Capitol Police on a rotating shift basis.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Monitoring and operating a two-way radio base station in accordance with departmental policies and procedures and FCC rules and regulations;
  • Maintaining location and recording the itinerary of personnel as prescribed by departmental policies and procedures;
  • Monitoring the radio system during surveillance and special details in operation;
  • Providing emergency or non-emergency assistance as situations mandate; and
  • Notifying maintenance of repairs on radio systems as prescribed by procedures.

  • Knowledge of appropriate procedures when interacting with individuals in critical situations;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to coordinate and disseminate information;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
  • Ability to make decisions and function effectively in high stress emergency situations;
  • Ability to monitor surveillance equipment (i.e. cameras, alarms);
  • Ability to operate a multi-line phone system.
  • Ability to respond to the public in a calm, effective manner; and
  • Ability to speak clearly and listen effectively.

BASE SALARY:

  • $46,350.00

BACKGROUND:

FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants. The elements of a background include: financial credit check, criminal history of applicant and applicant’s immediate family or roommates, personal references, employment and education verifications (which includes official transcript(s)), drug screen and fingerprinting.  This information will be utilized to make the final hiring decision.

 

NOTES:

The candidate selected for this position is required to be 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator (PST) certified. The selected candidate who does not hold a valid Florida 911PST certification at the time of hire will be required to become certified within 12 months of the date of hire.

 

SPECIAL NOTES:

  1. Preference will be given to current FDLE members who have satisfactorily completed at least six months of the probationary period for their current position.
  2. Preference will be given to candidates who currently hold a valid Florida 911PST certification.
  3. Preference will be given to candidates who possess public contact experience, one of which must have been in radio-teletype operations, sworn law enforcement or dispatching work.
