Your Specific Responsibilities:

This project manager position is primarily responsible for managing all phases of quality improvement projects from planning to deployment and will ensure high-quality deliverables. Within the Florida Newborn Screening (NBS) Program’s Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Unit. This position reports to the Supervisor of the CQI Unit within the NBS Program.

 

BACKGROUND:

The Division of Children’s Medical Services (CMS) is a compilation of programs that serve children and youth with special health care needs. Each program is responsible to either provide a managed system of care; preventive, evaluative, or early intervention services; or statewide children’s services. Florida’s NBS Program screens newborns for 36 core conditions within 24 – 48 hours after birth. Newborn screening is part of the standard of care for all infants because early detection and treatment of health issues can help your baby grow up healthier. The CQI Unit is responsible for all quality improvement activities, monitors performance benchmarks of facilities collecting and submitting specimen cards, manages the NBS unsatisfactory specimen caseload, oversees the data system for the NBS Program, performs marketing related tasks and manages the opt-out process for the Florida Sickle Cell Registry.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for managing, organizing, and completion of quality improvement projects by being engaged in all phases of the project lifecycle from planning to deployment, and will ensure high-quality deliverables in a timely manner.

Associated responsibilities include:

  • Defining project timeline, drafting proposals, establishing budgets if applicable, and maintaining project documentation throughout project lifecycle.
  • Organizing activities and determining an effective approach to complete each project.
  • Coordinating among internal teams to delegate and prioritize tasks and conduct status updates and check-ins with individual team members to ensure on-time completion of tasks.
  • Maintaining communication with stakeholders to ensure project alignment and address any challenges timely.
  • Providing regular project status check-ins, progress tracking, and updates on deliverables with internal teams, external resources, and stakeholders.
  • Serves as a point of contact for the NBS Program when multiple units/programs are assigned to the same project.
  • Produce project related reports/briefings and deliver presentations for senior level staff and stakeholders in a way that is professional and influential.
  • Creates quarterly reports of NBS submitter unsatisfactory, transit and other requested performance benchmark statistics for statistical analyses to determine rates, trends, incidence and prevalence of each submitting entity using computer-based data analysis software.
  • This position is also responsible for the coordination of the Florida Genetics and Newborn Screening Advisory Council (GNSAC) meetings and to provide oversight of all council related activities such as scheduling, public notices, appointments, travel, meeting minutes, reporting, related workgroups, and all required materials.
  • Overnight travel will be required once, possibly twice each year.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Preferred Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2-3 years of project management experience.
  • PMP certification desirable
  • Knowledge of project management frameworks and best practices
