The Work You Will Do:

  • Conduct investigations involving Department programs and personnel. All work is conducted in compliance with applicable investigative and other standards as appropriate, and according to Sections 20.055, and 112.3187-112.31895, Florida Statutes.
  • Conduct interviews with complainants, witnesses and subjects. Prepare detailed reports of investigations conducted, including detailing facts and reporting investigative findings. Draft investigative findings for review of the Inspector General.
  • Responsible for planning, investigating, and preparing final reports in a timely manner regarding allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, mismanagement, harassment, discrimination and any other allegations of laws, rules and policy violations related to the Department and/or Department employees, including allegations within the Florida Whistle-blower’s Act.
  • Coordination with external law enforcement and Department entities to ensure that allegations are resolved.
  • Perform other assignments or projects as directed by the Inspector General in support of the Office of Inspector General.
  • This position requires periodic overnight travel.

Pay:

Annual Hiring Pay Range: $68,135 - $83,997

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • The duties of this position require the employee to participate in confidential investigations in which access to Personnel information that is confidential and could lend to adverse findings that could affect a DEP employee.
  • Handles Whistle-blower’s Act cases which involve obtaining confidential information from an investigation which could affect departmental policies as they relate to DEP operations.
  • Employee is expected to demonstrate, model and reinforce the agency’s values of fairness, cooperation, respect, commitment, honesty, excellence and teamwork.
  • Employee fully supports and exemplifies a positive and ethical work environment which allows all employees to achieve their full potential in carrying out the agency’s mission and values.
  • Investigates allegations of employee misconduct and other improper activity.  Proposes solutions to resolve complaints or problems submitted to the Inspector General’s Office.
  • Identifies, assesses and investigates areas within the jurisdiction of the agency, vulnerable to fraud and abuse.  Conducts investigations of identified fraudulent activities.
  • Performs liaison activities with local law enforcement agencies, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Office of Inspector General as part of the investigative process.
  • Provides technical consultation to administrators and management staff on potential criminal activities uncovered during investigations.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse sector of individuals
  • Ability to prepare investigative reports
  • Ability to determine work priorities
  • Ability to ensure proper completion of work assignments
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to effectively interview subjects, complainants and witnesses
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university or relevant employment experience.
  • Ability to maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License and travel on overnight trips throughout the State of Florida for investigative fieldwork
  • Knowledge of investigative principles and techniques

POSITION OF SPECIAL TRUST REQUIREMENT:

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP-422 (Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility). Any applicant being considered for employment must successfully complete a Level 2 State and National criminal history check as a condition of employment before beginning employment, and also be screened in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, F.S.  No applicant may begin employment until the background screening results are received, reviewed for any disqualifying offenses, and approved by the Agency.
