  • GENERAL STATEMENTThe duties of this position require a constituted state law enforcement officer (pursuant to 379.3313, F.S.) certified by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, empowered to enforce all laws of the State with full powers of arrest. Responsibilities are to protect life, limb, and property on the waters and lands of the State. Enforce fish and wildlife laws and regulations, federal rules and regulations, and boating safety enforcement. This includes, but is not limited to, regulations of salt and freshwater fisheries, hunting, and the protection of both game and non-game species of fish and wildlife. This position investigates alleged violations of resource laws, seizes evidence, makes arrests, and testifies in court. Provides general police protection for citizens and visitors who use the lands and waters of the State of Florida. This position assists other agencies, upon request, in controlling and securing areas during disasters, hurricanes, fires, etc. and is subject to call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This position requires independent judgment and the ability to apply technical law enforcement knowledge with limited supervision. Duties require the member to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as directed.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSMust be 18 years of age to apply and 19 years of age by date of hireHave a High School diploma or GEDHave a valid Class E Florida driver’s license with an acceptable driving recordHave not been convicted of any felony or any misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statementHave not been dishonorably discharged from any of the Armed Forces of the USHave good moral characterSuccessful completion of a full background check if selectedThe Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (AKA FBAT / CJBAT / BAT) must be completed and passed to be eligible for phase 2 of the selection process. As of July 1, 2022, section 943.17(1)(g) states that any candidate wishing to enter a law enforcement academy that either (i) is a veteran as classified in section 1.01(14), F.S., or (ii) holds an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university is not required to take the Law Enforcement Basic Abilities Test. Please note that veteran is defined as being honorably discharged from military service. No other discharge classifications qualify. Please note that this does not apply to candidates wishing to enter a corrections academy.TRAINING ACADEMYThe FWC Training Center is located in Havana, Florida at the Florida Public Safety Institute (FPSI).Applicants who are Florida certified law enforcement officers will attend an abbreviated training course. Out-of-state law enforcement officers must obtain their Florida Law Enforcement Certification to be eligible for the abbreviated training course. For more information about the equivalency of training (EOT) process for out-of-state officers, please click the below link.Starting salary as Trainee is $2,019.23 bi-weekly / $52,500.00 annually.Upon assignment to field : Those residing within Dade County – $2,326.91 / $60,500.00 annuallyThose residing within Monroe County - $2,403.83 / $62,500.00 annuallySELECTION PROCESS INFORMATIONApplicants who meet the above criteria and pass the physical fitness assessment will be eligible to advance to the next stages of the selection process that includes an oral interview, full background investigation, medical physical and eye exam, and a psychological evaluation.If you are not a certified law enforcement officer, you must pass a (B.A.T.)
