The DEP Office of Inspector General’s mission is to promote integrity, accountability, and efficiency within the Department. The Office of Inspector General conducts independent and objective audits, reviews and investigations of Department issues and programs to assist the Department in meeting its vision. This position is under the direct supervision of the Inspector General.
The Work You Would Do:
- Conduct audits and reviews of departmental programs and policies, in accordance with Section 20.055, Florida Statutes and the Office of Inspector General’s operating procedures.
- Assist with investigations involving Department programs and personnel. All work is conducted in compliance with applicable investigative and other standards as appropriate, and according to Sections 20.055, and 112.3187-112.31895, Florida Statutes.
- Perform advisory services, research, training assistance or consultations in the examination of various financial documents, contracts, grants, accounting records, reports, inventories, & related financial systems and transactions for compliance with accepted accounting methods and prescribed policies and procedures.
- Examine and analyze operating methods, controls, and procedures to evaluate effectiveness, efficiency and/or cost benefit.
- Assist with Investigations regarding allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, mismanagement, harassment, discrimination and any other allegations of laws, rules and policy violations related to the Department and/or Department employees, including allegations within the Florida Whistle-blower’s Act.
- Perform other assignments or projects as directed by the Inspector General in support of the Office of Inspector General.
- This position requires periodic overnight travel.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

- Employee will conduct organizational studies and evaluations on office procedures providing technical assistance and developing procedures to assist the Office of Inspector General to operate more efficiently and effectively in the functions of the Office to the DEP.
- The duties of this position require the employee to participate in confidential investigations in which access to Personnel information that is confidential and could lend to adverse findings that could affect a DEP employee.
- Assists with Whistle-blower’s Act cases which involve obtaining confidential information from an investigation which could affect departmental policies as they relate to DEP operations.
- Assist with Administrative Investigations. Backup Accreditation Manager for the Internal Investigations Section.
- Conducts audit engagements in accordance with Section 20.055, Florida Statutes, the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (Red Book), Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book), and the Principles and Standards for Offices of Inspector General (Green Book).
- Assists the Inspector General with Special Projects related to Investigations and Audits. Assists in data gathering and data analysis in support of Office of Inspector General activities.
- Conducts reviews and analysis for compliance with Federal and State Single Audit Act.
- Performs financial analysis for audits and investigations.
- Performs other related duties and special assignments as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
