Duties and Responsibilities
The Florida Highway Patrol's Technology and Communications Office, Law Enforcement Information Technology Section (LEITS), is a specialized team dedicated to maintaining and advancing the technology that supports nearly 2,000 troopers and hundreds of support staff across Florida. Tasked with managing critical systems, infrastructure, and communications, this team ensures seamless operations across FHP’s regional offices and communication centers.
As a Systems Programmer III within the Florida Highway Patrol’s Technology and Communications LEITS Section, you will be responsible for administering and supporting distributed computer systems, ensuring their functionality, security, and compliance with FBI CJIS policies. This position provides second-tier technical support, overseeing the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hardware, software, and communication components across FHP facilities. You will assist in the procurement and implementation of advanced technology solutions, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and provide training and documentation to ensure the effective use of IT resources. Additionally, you will support enterprise-wide troubleshooting efforts, research emerging technologies, and contribute to planning and project administration to enhance the Patrol’s technical capabilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of distributed processing operations, procedures, and equipment.
- Knowledge of the ServiceNow product.
- Knowledge of information security best practices.
- Knowledge of IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) concepts.
- Experience in configuration and use of the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager, Azure, Entra, and Active Directory.
- Skill in deploying and administering Windows 11, iOS and Android based devices; use of mobile device management solutions.
- Skill with enterprise deployment solutions for desktop operating systems.
- Skill in remotely troubleshooting and resolving technical incidents.
- Knowledge of and skills in troubleshooting and administering of Windows scripting techniques.

Job Related Requirements
- The position you are applying is subject to a Level 2 background check, along with Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance, to include a fingerprint-based check of the criminal records of the FBI, as a condition of employment pursuant to Chapter 110.1127, 435 and 943, Florida Statutes. Please note that, since this position requires CJIS clearance, the Department will have access to all an applicant’s criminal and juvenile delinquency records, even those that have been sealed or expunged.
- This position requires the incumbent to have and maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing. This means there can be no cancellations, suspensions, or revocations for a minimum of three years prior to employment and for the duration of employment. There can be no more than three chargeable crashes or any violation of Chapter 316, Florida Statutes, during any consecutive three-year period prior to and throughout employment.
- Ability to operate a state vehicle.
- Occasional travel to include overnight travel may be required.
- May be expected to handle calls after regular business hours or to adjust scheduled shift to accommodate 24-7 operations.
General Information

- Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI. Fingerprints and associated information/biometrics will be retained in the FBI’s Next Generation Identification (NGI) system and fingerprints may continue to be compared against fingerprints submitted to or retained by NGI.
- FLHSMV employees are paid once a month on the last workday of each month. All state employees are required to participate in the direct deposit program pursuant to s. 110.113 Florida Statutes.
