The individual in this position assists teachers with curriculum planning, supervision of students, and teaching children in a classroom setting; assists in presenting and reinforcing learning concepts.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides support to teachers to ensure a safe and stimulating educational environment
- Assists teachers in planning and preparation for daily activities, aids instructional efforts of the teacher.
- Assists the teacher in preparing lesson outlines, plans, and curricula in assigned areas
- Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids for use in the classroom, including activity sheets, drawings, and similar handouts
- Presents subject matter to students, under the guidance of a teacher, utilizing a variety of methods including stories, discussions, and role playing
- Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts
- Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities, such as preparing, typing, copying and filing instructional materials.
- Operate and care for instructional equipment and materials
- Observe and control behavior of students in the classroom according to approved procedures
- Participate in professional growth activities
- Follow the communicated policies and procedures of the school district
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Education
- Associate degree from an accredited institution in general education, sociology, or related field, Required
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution preferred
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a school setting or related field - Required
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in an educational setting - Preferred
- Successful experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified - Preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures
- Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures
- Ability to provide activities for students that encourage healthy growth
- Child supervision skills
- Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for students
- Skill in preparing instructional aids and plans
