Summary/Objective:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of semiskilled and skilled building trades work in the repair, maintenance or construction of state buildings and related structures. Installs and maintains security, climate control and other facilities systems.


Essential Functions:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Assembles, installs, and/or repairs wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, etc.
  • Installs, maintains, evaluates, and repairs any components of the systems.
  • Performs basic and skilled painting, carpentry, and or roofing tasks.
  • Performs general maintenance and repair work on facilities.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance to buildings to ensure buildings do not deteriorate.
  • Operates trade-related tools and equipment.
  • Evaluates the condition and durability of equipment.
  • Reviews technical repair manuals, diagrams, schematics, and specifications in order to accurately evaluate and repair equipment.
  • Schedules and performs routine preventative maintenance and inspections to identify and correct potential safety hazards.
  • Ensures that parts for installation or maintenance meet required standards.
  • Inspects completed work for conformity to specifications.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs to equipment according to established procedures.
  • Responds to repair requests from assigned areas according to established procedures and in a timely manner.
  • Tests, inspects, and evaluates equipment for proper and safe operation in completion of repairs.
  • Prepares and submits complete and legible preventative maintenance and/or safety inspection forms for documentation of equipment condition and operator’s compliance with preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Performs work with minimal supervision.
  • Will perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

This job operates throughout the facility, both indoors and outdoors in any weather condition. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Working Conditions:

Incumbents working in this job perform duties in an office setting. This is a 40-hour workweek requirement. The position may involve managing a high-volume workload and demands a high level of accuracy while working with deadlines. Regular attendance is an important part of being successful in this position. Reasonable accommodations can be made available to qualified individuals upon request.


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This position is required to be on a rotating call duty during the week, weekends, and holidays. This position may occasionally require longer hours and weekend work.


Travel:

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

As a condition of employment with Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, you must successfully complete a mandatory federal and national background check, pre-employment testing, and additional checks required for your job.

High school diploma or GED AND Two years of experience in building repairs and maintenance or in the specific area of assignment OR One year of experience at the lower level General Trades Tech 1 (FET030) or position equivalent. Note: Some positions may require area specific certifications/licenses.
