The Georgia Department of Public Health is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Laboratory Supervisor, Newborn Screening with in the Division of Health Protection, Public Health Laboratory located in Decatur, GA.
The laboratory supervisor acts as a general supervisor as defined by the 1988 Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). Oversees compliance with safety procedures, reviews laboratory testing reports for validity and accuracy, and reviews and revises laboratory procedure manuals. Also manages inventory, supervises laboratory personnel, and performs technical duties when required. Saturday and/or holiday work will be required on occasion.
Job Responsibilities:
Serve as laboratory liaison in the implementation of the OZ electronic ordering project to transform manual laboratory ordering and printed reports to electronic orders and reports.
Participates in the recruitment of new staff, such as interviewing candidates for vacant positions and selecting the final candidate.
Oversees the training and competency assessment of staff.
Reviews/evaluates staff and documents all performance evaluations.
Prepares duty assignments and coordinates all leave and training of staff.
Arbitrates personnel work conflict and grievances.
Develops and establishes guidelines for implementing technical procedures in the lab and ensures that all procedures have approved SOPs.
Develops/establishes maintenance procedures for all equipment and instruments in the lab and documents all preventative and emergency maintenance.
Assures that the testing environment, equipment, reagents, and specimen integrity meet established performance standards.
Monitors all quality control data and procedures; oversees and documents any corrective action.
Maintains an inventory of all reagents and supplies and ensures timely ordering of same.
Ensures that all new lots of supplies and reagents are properly validated prior to being put into use.
Assists the manager and director in verifying/validating all new assays and instruments.
Coordinates all proficiency testing and ensures that results are submitted by the deadlines.
Works with departmental/non-departmental IT staff to ensure that testing and reporting meet established performance standards.
Works with the newborn screening program and the entities contracted to perform short-term follow-up to ensure that all positive screening results are reported in a timely manner.
