Salary: $52,000
The Vocational Skills Trainer is a position within the Walking the Next Mile program to assess and provide skills training to those reentering the workforce following incarceration. The successful applicant for this position will be responsible for delivering contextualized employer- and labor market-driven industry-recognized credential training, providing cognitive-based employment readiness training, and additional reinforcement on workforce coaching on resume writing, interviewing techniques, conflict resolution, employability, and job retention skills. The position will also provide intensive interviewing coaching to those who require that level of support.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Providing targeted instruction and skills training in industry related coursework to program participants in a correctional setting, including promoting education and job readiness skills.
- Delivering instruction through multiple modalities using a variety of technology platforms i.e., virtual, tablets, smart-board, etc.
- Developing lesson plans on educational topics within correctional facilities; adhering to approved curriculum, expected outcomes and program requirements; and submitting all transcripts and documents to the appropriate agencies for review and approval.
- Advising program participants, as needed, and assessing their progress using reliable criteria.
- Maintaining federal and state reports regarding participant assessment, educational progress, and industry credentialing.
- Making appropriate referrals, when needed.
- Coordinating special programs regarding training needs and assessments within the Department.
- Maintaining an accurate and complete inventory of all assigned equipment, tools, computers, and supplies used to deliver programming and training and monitoring student use of these items.
- Providing interview coaching, resume writing assistance, and conflict resolution techniques to program participants.
- Maintaining order and discipline in the training environment.
- Participating in professional development activities to improve teaching/training skills.
- Attending regular staff meetings.
- Performing other assigned duties as required.
- Experience in delivering and scoring assessments.
- Training and competency in working with the reentry population.
- Demonstrated experience managing and working effectively with justice-involved individuals in a correctional setting.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work across a diverse population.
