The Department of Health, Air Quality Laboratory has ONE (1) urgent vacancy located at the Hawaii State Laboratory in Pearl City, Oahu.

  This position supervises and operates, calibrates, maintains and repairs air quality electronic monitoring equipment (except computers) in a laboratory and at field stations throughout the State for a program of air pollution monitoring and control. Operation and calibration of equipment include the reduction of graphic data from strip charts to numerics utilizing standard statistical formulas to assure accurate functioning of equipment and to prepare reports. To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Electronics Experience:

General Experience: TWO (2) YEARS of experience which involved the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electronics equipment. The work must have demonstrated knowledge of the practical application of electronics principles, the ability to recognize improper operation, locate the cause, determine the best method to correct the defect and the skill to disassemble, assemble and adjust electronics equipment. The work must have included evidence of the ability to read and apply manufacturers' specifications, troubleshooting guides, electronic schematics, circuit and wiring diagrams and the ability to use standard tools and test equipment including oscilloscopes, multimeters and signal generators.

Specialized Experience: ONE (l) YEAR
of experience in maintaining and repairing electronic air monitoring equipment such as spectrophotometer, carbon monoxide analyzer, nitric oxide-nitrogen dioxide analyzer or electronic equipment of equivalent complexity and sophistication. The experience must have included the calibration of air quality or equivalent equipment.

Mathematics:   SIX (6) MONTHS of experience which demonstrated the knowledge of and application of trigonometry.

Concurrent Qualification:  An applicant may combine experience (electronics and mathematics) provided no less than a total of three (3) years of electronics experience of which one year is specialized electronics is shown, and experience must have demonstrated knowledge of all areas and ability to perform as specified. Examples of combination include but are not limited to: (a) three (3) years of electronics specialized experience which included application of mathematics as specified; or (b) possession of an associate of science degree in electronics technology from an accredited junior college, one (l) year of electronics specialized experience and six (6) months of experience which demonstrated the knowledge of and application of trigonometry.

Supervisory Aptitude: Supervisory aptitude rather than actual supervisory experience may be accepted. This requirement will be considered to have been met when there is strong affirmative evidence of the necessary supervisory abilities and/or potential.
