This recruitment is being conducted under the Operation Hire Hawaii (OH-HI) project, a targeted outreach initiative featuring an expedited hiring process, fast-tracking qualified applicants into job opportunities throughout Hawai’i. 


Applications received for this recruitment will be reviewed for Legal Authorization to work in the US. All applicants who pass the Legal Authorization review will be referred to the hiring department for consideration and an initial review of the application. 


Applicants who meet the initial review requirements at the departmental level may be contacted by the hiring program for an interview. All applicants interviewed by the hiring program will be notified of their selection or non-selection by the department.

A thorough review of all applications received will be conducted by the Department of Human Resources Development and all applicants will be notified of the final disposition.

Salary: $5,258 to $6,399 per month (SR-22, Step D to I)

Note: Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.


Geographic Notation:  Applicants from all islands are encouraged to apply as one of the positions is located on Oahu, and the geographical location for the second vacancy will be determined based on the island of the selected candidate's proximity to the closest available Division office.

Independently performs the full range of fishery research and management activities; supervises lower level fishery workers as assigned and performs other related duties as assigned.
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Legal Authorization to Work Requirement:
The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.  

Education:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a major in marine biology, freshwater biology, ecology, environmental science, zoology or a related biological science.

Specialized Experience:
Two (2) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in fishery or aquatic biology which involved the management, conservation, development, utilization and protection of aquatic resources, and/or scientific research dealing with aquatic resources and environment.

Special Requirements:
Some positions require possession of a Basic Open Water Diver (SCUBA) certification or a higher level SCUBA certification (e.g. rescue diver certification, master diver certification, etc.).  Applicants must also pass a medical examination to determine their physical fitness for SCUBA diving, within the probation period.  In addition, the employee must obtain scientific diver certification within the probation period.  One of the immediate vacancies has this requirement.

Driver's License: Some positions require possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.  The immediate vacancies have this requirement.

Physical Requirements: 
Some positions require the ability to lift and carry items of various weights with or without reasonable accommodation. One of the immediate vacancies has this requirement.
