The current vacancy is with the Department of Transportation, Highways Division located in Halawa to Kalihi.

  • This position REQUIRES a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B.
This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

This continuous recruitment may be closed at any time.  The notice of the last day to file applications will be posted on the State of Hawaii's Civil Service Job Opportunities Listing page of our website.Performs mechanical work in the adjustment, maintenance and repair of gasoline or diesel engines and motorized equipment under the supervision of a higher level automotive mechanic, performs routine tasks involved in the major overhaul of engines; and performs other related duties as assigned.To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Legal Authorization to Work Requirement:
The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Experience: TWO (2) YEARS of work experience as an apprentice or helper under a journey-level automotive mechanic; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Note: experience in repair of personal vehicles or hobby repair is NOT creditable.

SELECT CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Commercial Driver License (CDL):  This position requires the possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B at the time of application.

Note:  a valid out-of-state CDL may also be accepted.  If you are selected for this position, you must transfer your out-of-state CDL to Hawaii-issued CDL prior to your employment start date.  Your Hawaii-issued CDL will be verified by the hiring agency before you can start employment.  Please contact the Honolulu CDL Office at (808) 768-4185 for information on how to obtain a Hawaii CDL.  

The Federal Department of Transportation regulations require pre-employment testing for controlled substances.  If you are selected for this position, the hiring agency will notify you of when and where to report for testing if you are selected for this position.
