This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.  The immediate vacancy is with the Department of Health.

Level II -  $4,495 per month (SR-20, Step D)

Level III - $4,858 to $5,918 per month (SR-20, Step D to I).

Level IV - $5,258 to $6,399 per month (SR-22, Step D to I).

Note: The starting monthly salary for level II is at the minimum rate of pay, Step D. For vacancies at Step D to I, hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors

State Entomologist are concerned with flies, snails, beetles and other pests (including rodents) of economic and/or medical significance, and with the development, test or application of methods for their propagation or control. Major approaches to problem solving include methods of manipulating the effectiveness of the natural enemy; modifying the environment; changing adverse agricultural practices; introducing predators, parasites, pathogens and other beneficial organisms; devising and adapting abatement practices; applying chemicals; and integrating biological, chemical, cultural and/or other control measures.

The Entomologist II assists in the conduct of entomological research, development, prevention and control work; receives training in the more advanced methods, procedures and techniques to supplement academic training; and performs other related duties as assigned. 

The Entomologist III independently performs a limited range of professional entomological assignments; may serve as project leader; and performs other related duties as assigned.

The Entomologist IV independently performs the analysis, evaluation and solution of complex entomological problems with statewide implications; may supervise lower level entomologist as assigned; and performs other related duties as assigned. To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Legal Authorization to Work:

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.


Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in entomology or a closely related field which included at least twelve (12) semester credit hours in entomology coursework.

Specialized Experience: 
No Experience required at the II Level. 
One (1) year for the Level III and Two (2) years for the Level IV, of progressively responsible professional work experience in the field of entomological research, development, prevention, or control which included field and/or laboratory work.

Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required for some positions. For those positions requiring driver's license, you must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
