The immediate vacancies are with the Department of Transportation, Highways Maintenance  and Landscaping Unit.

  • These positions REQUIRE a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B, with Endorsement N  (Tank vehicles 1,000 gallons or more capacity), and no restrictions relating to codes E (manual transmission) and L (air brakes) at the time of application.

This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants to fill the current vacancies and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

Operates two or more types of motorized equipment such as heavy trucks, heavy rollers, loaders and light tractors as a major work assignment; may perform manual work tasks in connection with general construction and maintenance work; may operate graders and heavy tractors as an incidental work assignment; and performs other related duties as assigned.

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Legal Authorization to Work Requirement:
The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications Requirements
:

General Experience: ONE (1) YEAR of work experience involving the operation of at least TWO (2) of the motorized equipment representative of the class equipment representative operator III (e.g. heavy motorized equipment such as trucks having a factory rated capacity of 5 tons or over, rollers of 5 tons or over, loaders, and tractors such as D-4, TD-6 and TD-9 with bulldozer blade attachments), or any equivalent combination of training and experience
 
Commercial Driver's License (CDL): At the time of application, applicants must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class A or B,  with Endorsement N (Tank vehicles 1,000 gallons or more capacity), and NO restrictions relating to codes E (manual transmission) and L (air brakes).

A valid out-of-state CDL may also be accepted. If you are selected for this position, you must transfer your out-of-state CDL to a Hawaii-issued CDL prior to your employment start date and within 30 days of arriving in Hawaii. Your Hawaii-issued CDL will be verified by the hiring agency before you can start work. Please contact the Honolulu CDL Office at (808) 487-5534 for information on how to obtain a Hawaii CDL.

The Federal Department of Transportation regulations require pre-employment testing for controlled substances. If you are selected for this position, the hiring agency will notify you of when and where to report for testing.

Lift and Carry: Some positions require the ability to lift and carry objects of various weights with or without reasonable accommodation.  The immediate vacancies require the ability to lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs unassisted and 100 lbs assisted by another person and/or use of equipment (e.g., hoisting equipment, hand truck).
