This position is with the State of Hawaii, Department of Human Services, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Oahu Branch, Deaf Services Section, located in Downtown, Honolulu.  This position requires proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).

Salary:
Level II - $4,495.00
Level III - $4,858.00 - $5,918.00 per month (Step D to I)*

*Note: Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications and other relevant factors. 

This recruitment is being conducted as a multi-level recruitment.  Qualified applicants at the II level will be referred for consideration only if there are insufficient qualified applicants at the III level.The Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist performs evaluation, vocational counseling and allied rehabilitation services for the full range of cases; provides and/or arranges for testing, medical treatment, training, job placement and adjustment; and performs other related duties as assigned. 

These positions are with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Services for the Deaf Section. The function of this section is to assist eligible individuals who  are deaf, deaf-blind, or hard of hearing in preparing for serving, retaining, or regaining employment through the provisions of vocational rehabilitation services.

Level III: The primary purpose of this journey worker level position is to provide services to a caseload of individuals within the full range of disabilities from simple to complex cases to assist them in achieving an employment outcome. 

Level II:  The primary purpose of this advanced trainee position is to continue learning the vocational rehabilitation casework process and program requirements for providing services to individuals with disabilities in order to progress to the fully trained and experienced journey worker level.  Training focuses on learning the agency's role, its philosophy of service, commitments, organizational relationships and goals, and provision of vocational rehabilitation services to an assigned caseload of individuals with disabilities in various stages of the rehabilitation process, ranging from the simple non-significantly disabled to the moderately complex significantly disabled.  Training includes continuation of coursework, work experience, or internship required to meet the minimum qualifications for the VR Specialist III level.Applicants will be placed on the eligible list for all levels for which they are qualified. 

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Level III:  Current certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC).

Level II:  Successful completion of half of the required coursework towards a Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).


American Sign Language Selective Certification Requirement:  The position requires applicants to be proficient in American Sign Language (ASL).  The applicant must possess the ability to communicate effectively with deaf persons by use of ASL.  Such an ability may be demonstrated either by experience with hearing-impaired persons which demonstrated knowledge of and ability to communicate with deaf persons using ASL or by formal training in ASL communication.   Applicants must clearly indicate on their application their experience communicating, using ASL and/or formal training in ASL communication.
