Salary: Level III $4,858 - $5,918 per month (SR-20, Step D to I) Note: Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.

Duties Summary
This position is the Department’s Tobacco Prevention and Control Section (TPCS) Youth and Young Adults Prevention Coordinator (YPC). It is responsible for prevention activities that encourage and support youth and young adults to make behavior choices consistent with tobacco-free norms. This position works with the community to build capacity for youth and young adults’ engagement in evidence-based tobacco control activities and strategies related to tobacco prevention and control. It implements policy, systems, and environmental strategies that provide the opportunity for Hawaii’s youth to live a healthy, tobacco-free life.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.
1. Basic Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university.
Excess work experience as described under the Specialized Experience, below, or any other responsible administrative, professional or analytical work experience that provided knowledge, skills and abilities comparable to those acquired in four (4) years of successful study while completing a college or university curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. To be acceptable, the experience must have been of such scope, level and quality as to assure the possession of comparable knowledge, skills and abilities.
The education or experience background must also demonstrate the ability to write clear and comprehensive reports and other documents; read and interpret complex written material; and solve complex problems logically and systematically.
2. Specialized Experience Requirement: Level III – Two (2) years of professional experience in community health education which involved educating the public in the prevention of disease and other unhealthy conditions, and working as a consultant to other professionally trained individuals such as physicians, nurses, social workers and teachers.
3. Substitution of Education for Experience: A master’s degree in public health from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two (2) years of Specialized Experience. A doctoral degree in public health or a closely related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the (3) years of the required experience.
