The Interpretative Specialist with a working title of Public Programs Specialist will contribute greatly to connecting the museum to the community and is an important part of the education team. In collaboration with museum team members, they will develop, implement, and evaluate a range of fun and engaging public programs that enrich and expand the educational mission of the museum, focusing on target audiences, annual goals, revenue generation, and community impact. They will work with already established community partners and identify new opportunities for community involvement. They will set and maintain high standards of program quality and impact, and help the Museum fulfill its educational mission. The Public Programs Specialist works as a part of the Idaho State Museum Education team to deliver high-quality public programming for community audiences of all ages.
This position will work Monday- Friday between the hours of 8am-5pm. It will require frequent evening and weekend work, as needed.
Responsibilities
Program Development
- Collaborate with the museum events team to research, design, implement, and assess community programs including but not limited to film screenings, special events, and First Thursday programming.
- Familiarize themselves with the museum exhibitions and content to ensure a thorough understanding of Idaho and its history to contribute to relevant and appropriate programming.
- Evaluate current public programming and contribute to consistent and successful evaluation processes.
- Partner with Museum Administrator and events team on drafting media advisories and other promotional material for events.
- Provide logistical support for internal events and set-ups.
Community Engagement
- Establish and sustain good relationships with community partners.
- Represent the museum effectively to outside community members.
Project Management
- Manage a museum-wide calendar of public programs, making sure to align appropriate programming to time-sensitive commemorations and traveling exhibitions.\
- Represent the museum on the agency wide Communication Committee and contribute to social media.
- Work closely with the Events & Rental Coordinator on the usage of museum spaces and resources, communicating staffing and logistical needs.
- Provide support as needed for other educational and museum programs.
- Provide support to agency public programs and outreach efforts as assigned
- Support the Mission, Vision and Values of the Agency
- Support and demonstrate the Work Culture Standards
- Some amount of weekend and/or evening time spent at ISHS programming events and workshops
- Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient work environment
- Performs other duties as assigned
