State Hospital North, located in Northern Idaho, is seeking a temporaryPsychiatristposition to provide intermittent patient coverage as hospital need arises. Opportunity to work with a dedicated team of professionals serving some of Idaho's most vulnerable mentally ill patients.

This position will have a potential start date of no earlier than June 8, 2025, and is intended as coverage for current Physicians that are out. It will be Monday-Friday with hours dependent upon time spent with clients.

State Hospital North inOrofino, Idaho, is a licensed 60-bed psychiatric hospital providing primarily involuntary inpatient treatment for adults in psychiatric crisis who are committed to the Department of Health and Welfare. State Hospital North collaborates with patients, their families, and the referring regional behavioral health centers to develop targeted goals and objectives for the individual’s treatment episode while simultaneously focusing on critical supports and arrangements for follow-up care after discharge.

Employment is dependent upon satisfactory results of the investigation.

Example Of Duties:

  • Develops psychiatric diagnostic evaluations.
  • Conducts or serves on interdisciplinary treatment team staffing.
  • Prescribes and/or approves clinical treatment plans.
  • Documents establishment of diagnoses.
  • Prescribes and performs psychiatric treatment to include chemotherapy, individual and group psychotherapy and modalities.
  • Documents psychiatric condition in client's medical record.
  • Reviews and monitors clinical staff records.
  • Evaluates client's progress.
  • Oversees work performed by non-physician clinical personnel.
  • Assesses patient's medical condition and refers for consultation and treatment.
  • Evaluates treatment recommendations from medical consultants.
  • Provides minor and emergency treatment of physical ailments.
  • Coverage would generally involve evaluating and treating 12-18 patients, 2-4 times per year.
  • Duties would include entering a weekly progress note for each patient, attending minimalmeetings, and completing other tasks that may arise during the course of coverage for the caseload.

You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Minimum Qualifications:

  • This position requires applicants to be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine and surgery by the Idaho State Board of Medicine. Licensure must be obtained prior to appointment.ANDcurrent certification or eligible for certification from the American Medical Association specialty board of psychiatry and neurology.
  • Considerable knowledge ofpsychiatric theory; psychopathology; psychopharmacology; psychiatric management of dangerous individuals.
  • Experienceperforming psychiatric diagnoses. (Current certification from the American Medical Association specialty board of psychiatry and neurology would demonstrate competence in the preceding knowledge and qualifications.)
