The Idaho State Tax Commission's Pocatello Office is recruiting for a Sales Tax Auditor 1 position (Underfill for a Tax Auditor 2*) in the Audit Division. This position may work with other tax types in the future.

Tax Auditors interact with taxpayers and their representatives to verify the accuracy of tax returns and prepare reports of findings, conclusions, or recommendations. The Audit team is our first line of defense in protecting Idaho citizens from very sophisticated fraudsters trying to extract money from taxpayers. • Effectively and professionally communicate both orally and in writing

• Upon successful completion of the requirements for a Tax Auditor 2, the incumbent will complete the underfill and be reclassified to a Tax Auditor 2. The current minimum rate is $27.70/hour.

This announcement may also be used to fill future Tax Auditor 1 openings.

Responsibilities:

• Communicate orally and in writing with taxpayers and their representatives to verify the accuracy of tax returns through review of accounting systems, financial statements, work papers, tax and payroll records and other related documents.
• Research and analyze data for accuracy to ensure compliance with State tax laws and regulations.
• Prepare audit findings and summaries.
• Identify legal issues and apply appropriate statute, rules and legal precedents.
• Tax types may include:
• Amusement Devices, Auditorium Districts, Beer Tax, Business Income Tax, Cigarette Tax, E911 Prepaid Wireless Fee, Electricity (Kilowatt Hour) Tax, Estates and Taxes, Fuels Taxes and Fees, Individual Income Tax, Mine License Tax, Oil and Gas Production Tax, Property Tax, Sales / Use Tax, Tobacco Tax, Travel & Convention Tax, Vending Machines, Wine Tax, and Withholding Tax
• Participate in team audits

Minimum Qualifications:

Good knowledge of accounting principles and practices. We highly encourage new college grads to apply!

Typically gained by having at least two years of professional work experience as an accountant, or equivalent, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), AND having at least 12 college credits, or equivalent coursework, in accounting, including the equivalent of Intermediate I and II.

OR

Having at least three years of professional work experience as an accountant, or equivalent, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Students who are currently in their last semester of college earning a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or in Business with accounting emphasis are encouraged to apply and are eligible to be placed on the hiring list. A job offer cannot be made until after graduation with degree.
